The International Youth Day (IYD) is observed annually on the 12th of August and it is endorsed by the United Nations to draw the attention of governments and other concerned institutions to pressing challenges of youths worldwide. The program was first launched in 2000. Every year since its inception, a theme rooted in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda for 2030 is selected to commemorate the day.
For this year, 2019, “Transforming Education” was selected, to bring to consciousness the importance of quality education (both formal and informal) for sustainable development.
The Program encourages youth around the world to organize activities to raise awareness about youth-related issues in their country. In the light of that, the Youth in Agribusiness office of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture has decided to celebrate this year’s IYD with an event highlighting and showcasing the relevance of agricultural education for youth.
The event, coming up on August 15, would feature representatives from the private and public sector to discuss topical issues affecting youth engagement in agriculture.
Participants would also have an opportunity to display their products, network with other agripreneurs for business expansions.
