The fishery enterprise is the fastest growing Youth Agripreneurs business in Ibadan, Nigeria. Managed by a team of five IITA Youth Agripreneurs (IYA), it started with four earthen ponds with about 20,000 catfish (Clarias Species) in 2014. Team members were trained at one of the largest fish industries in West Africa, Durante Fish Industries. After the first production cycle which ended in April 2015, the team sold about 38 tons of table-size catfish with an average weight of 1.5kg. Realizing the potential of fish farming, the team has expanded its operations by digging an additional 13 earthen ponds, and established a state-of-the-art hatchery facility to meet the high demand for fingerlings. From 20,000 catfish, the 17 ponds have now been stocked with over 100,000 fingerlings, which are expected to be ready for sale in November 2015.
